Designed by PRP, the Made in Dagenham film and television studio in east London will include 12 sound stages, flexible accommodation to be used as production offices, hair, makeup and dressing rooms, two workshops for set construction, as well as a landmark office building for the pre and post production alongside space for associated creative industry businesses. The planned studio will create 1,200 jobs and contribute £35m a year to the London economy.
The complex will be built at a 20-acre plot opposite Dagenham East train station. Through our proposed design we will repurpose the existing brownfield site by integrating new purpose-designed sound stages and support spaces with the retention and re-use of the site’s existing buildings. The new architecture - a modern interpretation of the site’s former 1930s studio and cinema building design - adopts a modular approach to both form and layout to maximise its future adaptability. Key sustainability measures such as green roofs have been incorporated within the design.
