Farrow Court Phase 1 complete

By PRP – 29 February 2016

Phase 1 of a high-quality older peoples' housing scheme in Ashford is now complete with the existing community of residents enjoying their new homes.

Replacing an outdated sheltered housing scheme, Farrow Court's dementia-friendly and inclusive design is attractive, welcoming and practical to meet the future needs of an aging population. Developed by Ashford Borough Council, the scheme offers affordable and modern accommodation for residents of the Stanhope community.

Farrow Court incorporates an Age UK Community Resource Centre, 84 care-ready apartments for older people, an eight-bed recuperative care centre and 12 independent living apartments for people with learning disabilities. The Community Resource Centre and 33 apartments have now opened as Phase 1 of the development.

Ashford Borough Council's Chief Executive, Tracey Kerly, said, "To say how proud I am on the delivery of Farrow Court, an innovative development for the ageing population and the community, is an understatement."

"Working with PRP has made that possible. The design is exceptional, delivering a significant difference in quality. The careful attention to detail to exploit the use of natural light and space has created a building functional, appropriate for its use, and a real sense of place. It's been a balanced relationship working with Jenny Buterchi and her very professional team at PRP."

Work on Phase 2 has already begun and is due for completion in summer 2017.
