The Haggerston Community Centre & Nursery, designed by PRP, was formally opened on 20 November by Mayor Jules Pipe and Councillor Philip Glanville. The building provides 1200m2 of accommodation spread over five storeys and includes an extensive range of facilities. Beyond the community centre and nursery the building is used by the Bridge Academy school and Catch 22 – the philanthropic training and mentoring organisation.

Consultation with local residents on the centre’s design was carried out through a well-attended series of events over the design development period, and their attendance at the opening ceremony marks the end of an extensive collaborative effort. Mayor Jules Pipe described the nursery as ‘Fantastic’ with ‘very beautiful spaces’.

The event also provided the opportunity to view the newly installed public art installations by stone mason and artist Bobbie Fennick, who led a tour around the stunning carved monoliths.
