PRP welcomes Government spending increase for Councils

By PRP – 26 February 2020

The biggest increase in councils’ spending power for a decade was confirmed on 24 February 2020 by the Local Government Secretary, Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP. The settlement is the biggest real-terms increase in spending power in a decade and includes an extra £1.5 billion for social care.

For Brendan Kilpatrick, Senior Partner at PRP: "this welcomed announcement re-affirms the Prime Minister’s commitment to rewarding those who swept him to power with a regional distribution of funding. The above inflation increase in spending power will allow local authorities to capitalise on their ability to build their own council housing and to retain their best staff to allow this to happen. The £1.5 billion boost to social care is a further sign that demographic-related issues of social care, ignored for so long, are at last beginning to be addressed by the Government.”
