PRP

PRP has been appointed by London Borough of Tower Hamlets to develop and submit a detailed planning application for the development of Gill Street, a site located in Poplar, East London just south of the cross-roads where Grenade Street and Gill Street intersect.

The proposed regeneration will provide 15 new homes for affordable rent and a space for community use in the future. The area is currently occupied by a community centre, used by a local prayer group, and an open space of poor quality, all of which the proposals seek to improve.

The immediate context is of a residential nature with Trinidad House and Grenada House fronting the site. The site has a good connection with public transport with Docklands Light Railway underground station located in a close walking distance. A pedestrian link is provided on the southbound, in front of Grenada House.

A sequence of new vibrant and functional landscape spaces is connected by a legible path network. The spaces respond to the existing accesses and provide opportunity for a series of new spaces for play, low key activities and fitness. Seating has been carefully located to overlook play and active areas.

The edges of the site have been carefully considered with a new treatment that is sensitive to the existing context and new architecture. A soft landscape intervention is proposed with new tree planting and a considered planting scheme with sensory and wildlife attracting plant species.
