Maple West is the third and final scheme to be delivered as part of the Stoke-on-Trent Extra Care PFI.
Developed on the former Westcliffe Hospital site, retained and refurbished elements of the original buildings maintain an important link with the past. The building is carefully scaled to respect the surrounding residential area, while traditional, locally-sourced multi-red brickwork and recessed pointing at the building's base creates a robust textured appearance. The upper floors are clad in smooth red brick, while hit and miss glazed brickwork, stack bonding and rendered panels within the internal courtyards, provide relief to the façades.
Two courtyard gardens, each designed with different characters offer residents opportunities to access and enjoy the outdoors. The communal lounge opens onto a more formal landscaped central courtyard, while a less formal outer courtyard includes meandering paths and an orangery.
