PRP has produced the masterplan to consolidate Claires Court School, in Maidenhead, from two existing sites onto one new campus site with the most modern teaching accommodation, sports facilities and playing fields. The campus will create a strong new identity for the school and be designed to provide an inspirational environment for pupils aged 3 to 18. Additionally, part of the site will become home to a private hospital.
Extensive landscaping, including a pond and gardening area for growing fruit and vegetables, enhances the school’s sustainability. And the numerous energy conservation techniques and renewable energy technologies will produce a ‘BREEAM - Very Good’ rating.
The proposalsfor the new campus at Claires Court School are based on a landscape led masterplan to promote the careful integration of the scheme with its rural landscape setting on Green Belt land west of Maidenhead. The masterplan includes extensive new structure planting to the site edges and a series of outdoor spaces and play areas within the school grounds to provide opportunities for a variety of activities for all age ranges including performance, outdoor learning and dining, sports, play, fetes and other large scale school events. Under an iterative design process PRP were responsible for preparing a Landscape & Visual Assessment to enable the design team to consider the optimum scale and location of the buildings, and identify opportunities for mitigation to minimise potential impact on the Green Belt.
