A new mixed use masterplan and landscape design for the City Square of Izhvesk, in central Russia. The scheme centres around a new public realm destination in the heart of the city that is 1 Kilometre in length and incorporates 70 metre change in level. Four new interconnected spaces are created that have distinct characters and functions, are sheltered and of human scale.
A civic square is created that can be partially enclosed during winter; a grove of courtyards each celebrating Izhevsk life is set within an urban woodland; a festival square creates performance areas surrounded by cafe’s, cinemas and clubs and finally a terrace garden of wildflower meadow cover the roofs of pop up buildings overlooking the lake. A cable car connects to the wider city, whilst a viewing tower provides a new landmark for the city skyline.
