PRP’s masterplan for Clapham Park Estate in Lambeth envisages the regeneration of 61.4 hectares. The practice was appointed to undertake detail planning design for the first phase of the regeneration plan, followed by a design coding exercise for the whole estate and detail planning design for several of the housing blocks.
Half the current homes in the first phase will be demolished, half refurbished and 2,500 new ones built, creating a rich mix of community, from large family houses to smaller apartments, for both affordable and private units. Distinctive shared courtyards and a new park with wildflower meadows will provide a new communal heart for the neighbourhood.
Landscape design was an integrated part of the master plan for the overall area and the provision and design of outdoor spaces, both shared and private, was carefully considered as part of the master plan. The master plan is based on a series of new residential blocks which provide shared amenity space in central courtyards, mostly podium gardens, with private balconies and patio gardens facing on to the courtyards. A large new park creates a centre to the area with play spaces for all ages, sports facilities and ornamental gardens. Delivery of the construction stage information for the landscape of the first buildings in the master plan area has been provided by PRP.
