The Woodcock Street project created the first new homes for over 10 years in this area of West Hull. It was closely scrutinised as it was setting the standard for all further schemes to be delivered as part of the regeneration of the area.
The houses are set round perimeter blocks in short terraces or as semi-detached units, ensuring active street frontages and natural surveillance over the public realm. All new homes are Ecohomes rated ‘very good’ and all meet Lifetime Homes standard, each home has a private garden and allocated parking spaces. The architecture takes its cue from surrounding buildings, brick and render are the existing predominant materials and bay and dormer windows and gable roof forms give visual interest. These materials and details have been used in a contemporary manner within the design.
Central to the development is a new urban square introduced to provide play space and informal meeting space for the new residents.
