Orford Place is a new retirement community for the over 55s on the former St Michael’s Convent site. In a prime location overlooking Ham Common, there are 23 houses and apartments in new and converted buildings all set within three acres of beautiful grounds.
The Grade II listed building at the heart of the site and the existing coach house have been retained and sympathetically extended and remodelled as a focal point for the redevelopment. To the rear of the listed building there are eleven new build houses, designed with generous space standards and HAPPI principles to meet the needs of the older residents. The new buildings are designed so that the architecture complements the historic buildings and are sensitively positioned within the landscape to maintain strong visual links to them.
Every residence is designed with private external amenity as either a garden, balcony or terrace and residents also benefit from three acres of beautifully designed mature communal gardens. PRP’s landscape team have created a sequence of spaces with distinct character including an 18th century walled garden, orchard, formal lawns, food production area and greenhouses.
