Christopher Boone's Court provides stunning, high quality housing in Lewisham, South London, contributing greatly to the wider regeneration of the area.
The scheme is unique as it's a modern interpretation of an almshouse, providing 92 contemporary new homes, including 64 for older people, 26 homes for sale, and an additional two family houses for social rent.
In its initial design, an internal courtyard garden was included, with external open air walkways which wrap around the inside of the development. This creates a central focus at the very heart of the scheme, generating a real sense of community for residents.
The design is high-quality, as are the materials and detailing, with no distinction made between the different tenures. The site cleverly locates different housing typologies and tenures across a steeply sloping site but still manages to create separate private entrances, gardens and amenity space.
The housing takes the form of the beautiful Georgian villas which line the street as it rises to the east. This architectural form helps to respect the conservation area and knits the new design seamlessly into its historic setting.
